Girl fighting for life after truck smashes into family car

A 10-year-old girl is in a critical condition after a truck crashed into her family’s car in Melbourne’s south-west. Police were called to Ballan Road, near the intersection of Welcome Parade in Wyndham Vale, after reports of a collision about 9.20pm yesterday. It’s believed a Mitsubishi Outlander- carrying the girl, her brother, and mum and dad- was stationary in the right lane when a tip truck and trailer crashed into the rear of the car. Man in custody after birthday shooting

A man accused of shooting two young revellers during a birthday celebration in Melbourne has briefly appeared in court. Two Berwick men, aged 19 and 21, suffered non-life-threatening injuries when they were shot in the car park of the Hampton Park Tavern during a brawl early on Sunday. Vince Tominiko, 25, was arrested later the same day and police charged him with firearm-related offences. He appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday and did not apply for bail. Cricket will open the new Perth Stadium, with confirmation the fifth Gillette One-Day International between Australia and England in late January will be played at the new stadium.
